Dortmund, 2. August 2012. tde-trans data elektronik, a leading manufacturer, distributor and system provider of network technology and a pioneer in the field of fibre optic multi-fibre technology shows that a Plug & Play fibre optic cabling system is also a good choice in the industrial environment: As an extension of the successful cabling system tML® - tde Modular Link tde presents a new DIN rail adapter that allows the installation of pre-terminated Plug & Play tML® modules on a DIN rail in the production hall. Plug & Play cabling ensures flexibility and independence for the industry.

"With the tML® DIN rail adapter we offer a practical tool to easily connect manufacturing machines via fibre or copper. All cables and connectors are already pre-terminated and merely have to be connected on site," says André Engel, CEO of tde - trans data elektronik.

Optical fibre in industrial environments

In the industrial environment, fibre optic networks are increasingly used for linking manufacturing plants, which is a clear advantage in comparison to copper cabling: fibre optic cables are immune to electromagnetic interference and therefore particularly suitable for industrial environments. To date, the Industrial Ethernet mostly relies on traditional cabling methods which means that the required cable lengths are determined and the cables are cut as well as furnished with the connectors on spite.

Plug & Play systems are highly beneficial in the industrial environments. If optimization measures in the production lines require a rearrangement, the locations of the machines can be easily changed without having to replace the entire cabling due to the modular cabling systems. The tML® DIN rail adapter is designed for the installation of two tML® modules on a DIN rail inside a cabling cabinet. The adapters take any two tML® modules and allow the assembly of the modules in two stages with different inclination angles at a maximum of 30°. For those users who want to continue to rely on copper wiring, tde provides twisted pair modules and TP trunk cables with PUR cable jackets. This cable is particularly suitable for the industry because it is less sensitive to corrosive materials and resists considerable mechanical stress.

The tML® tde Modular Link System

tML® is a patented modular cable system that comprises three core components: Modules, trunk cable and rack mount enclosure. All system components are prepared and tested in the factory before going out to data centres or industrial environments, where they are predominantly installed. The plug & play installation ensures that systems can be up and running in the shortest amount of time. There are fibre optic and twisted-pair modules, which can be used together in a single rack mount enclosure achieving a very high port density. The heart of the system is formed by the rear-mounted MPO/MTP® and telco connectors, which enable the connection of at least 6 ports at once using 10 GbE or GbE performance. At 40/100 GbE, the modules are replaced by front panels with MPO adapters. Using 48 MPO-connectors, 1152 fibres can be implemented in a single rack unit.
