New 72 fibre module achieves 576 fibres in a single 1U unit

A quantum leap in packing density tML – 72 fibre MPO module
Dortmund, 21 October 2009. With the new 72-fibre tML® fibre optic module, we now offer a new, innovative module for the successful tML® - tde Modular Link cabling system. The 72-fibre tML® fibre optic module allows the highest levels of packaging density, with minimum installation effort on site.
Using the new tML® fibre optic module, when the patch panel is fully fitted with eight modules, it is possible to install 576 fibres in just a single 1U unit. The rear of the module contains a 72-fibre MPO connector, which internally distributes the 72 fibres through a fanout unit to six 12-fibre MPOs located on the front of the module.
This highly compact system offers great space-saving advantages, since it takes up just one twelfth of the space needed by traditional cabling systems. At the same time, the installation of cabling is extremely fast: Just one MPO connector can be used to plug & play 72 fibres at once – that produces significant time savings, which is obviously reflected in the installation costs for the cabling.
The matching 72-fibre trunk cable can also be obtained from tde. We only use MPO connectors with precision ferrules, since the manufacture of high-quality 72-fibre MPOs is a critical part of the system. Aligning the 72 fibres that lie closely packed together in the plastic ferrule in exactly the same way, to obtain the same performance from the connector that one would expect from a single-ferrule connector, demands wide-ranging experience and expertise.
The new tML® fibre optic module is available in multimode OM3+ format and is suitable for use in backbone cabling and cabinet-to-cabinet connections.
The tML® - tde Modular Link System
tML® is a patented, modular cabling system that comprises three core
components: Modules, trunk cable and module slot units. All system
components are prepared and tested in the factory before being
installed, mostly in data centres. The plug & play installation
means systems can be up and running in the shortest amount of time.
There are fibre optic and twisted-pair modules, and these can be used
in mixed scenarios in a single module slot unit achieving very high
port density. The heart of the system is formed by the rear-mounted
MTP®/MPO and telco connectors, through which at least 6 ports can be
connected at once using 10 GbE or GbE Performance.
